Frosting Sheet Instructions

Storage

DO NOT REFRIGERATE.

Keep your edible image flat inside the original sealed zip-lock bag at room temperature until you are ready to use it. Store away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity.

When properly stored, frosting sheets have a shelf life of approximately 12 months.

Before You Begin

Your image is printed directly onto a thin, edible layer of icing attached to one plastic backing sheet.

There is only ONE backing to remove. Once the plastic backing has been removed, the edible image is ready to apply.

For best results, leave the image sealed in its original bag until you are ready to decorate your cake.

What Can I Put My Edible Image On?

Buttercream:
Our recommended application. Place the frosting sheet directly onto fresh buttercream.

Whipped Icing:
Because whipped icing contains more moisture, apply your image as close to serving time as possible. Excess moisture can eventually cause colors to bleed or fade. A thin layer of buttercream beneath the image can help.

Ice Cream Cakes:
Allow the surface to soften slightly or lightly moisten the application area with milk before placing the image.

Fondant:
Lightly brush the area where the image will be placed with water. Avoid getting water outside the image area because it can mark the fondant.

Cookies:
Attach using frosting, royal icing, or a small amount of corn syrup thinned with water.

Oreo® Cookies:
Lightly brush the cookie with corn syrup thinned with a small amount of water, then apply the image.

Hard Candy & Lollipops:
Use a very thin coating of diluted corn syrup to adhere the image.

Chocolate:
A small amount of corn syrup thinned with water can be used to attach the image to chocolate.

Choosing Your Icing Color

Edible images look their best on white or light-colored icing.

Because frosting sheets are thin, very dark icing colors may show through and alter the appearance of your image.

For dark-colored cakes, we recommend applying the edible image to a thin piece of white or light-colored fondant first, then placing it onto the cake.

When Should I Apply It?

For buttercream and similar frostings, the image can generally be applied ahead of time, but we recommend no more than 48 hours before your event.

The amount of moisture in your icing can affect how quickly the image softens. If you're concerned about fading or bleeding, apply the image within an hour of serving.

How to Apply Your Edible Image

Start with clean, completely dry hands.

  1. Keep water away from the printed surface. Excess water can dissolve the frosting sheet and damage the image.
  2. Make sure your cake's frosting is still slightly moist or tacky. If the surface has crusted, lightly mist the icing before application.
  3. Remove the edible image from its plastic backing.
  4. If it doesn't release easily, place the sheet image-side-up near the edge of a clean countertop and gently roll the backing over the edge to help loosen it.
  5. Hold the image by the edges and position it over your cake.
  6. Lower the center first, then gently smooth toward the outer edges.
  7. Make sure the entire image, especially the edges, makes contact with the frosting.
  8. If necessary, frosting sheets can be trimmed with clean, sharp scissors before application.
  9. Finish with your favorite piped icing border or decorations.

If Your Frosting Sheet Won't Release From the Backing

Humidity can cause frosting sheets to absorb moisture and temporarily stick to their backing.

Do not force or pull the image from the backing, as this may tear it.

First, try gently rolling the backing over the sharp edge of a clean countertop several times. This often helps the image release.

If it is still sticking, try one of these methods:

Warm, Dry Oven:
Place the frosting sheet on a clean pan in a warm, dry oven at approximately 85°F for 8–10 minutes. Allow it to dry slightly, then try removing the backing again.

Hair Dryer:
From a safe distance, use a hair dryer on the front and back of the sheet in a circular motion for approximately 60 seconds per side. Repeat if necessary until the sheet becomes slightly firmer and releases easily.

Freezer:
Place the sealed or protected frosting sheet in a dry freezer for approximately 30 seconds. In very humid conditions, it may require up to 1–1½ minutes. Remove the backing immediately after taking the sheet from the freezer.

Important Tips

Keep your edible image flat, sealed, dry, and at room temperature until you're ready to use it. Avoid refrigeration, direct sunlight, and prolonged exposure to humidity.

Once applied, the frosting sheet will gradually soften and blend into the icing, giving your cake a smooth, professionally decorated appearance.
