Dry times per layer of Poppy Paint are as follows:
- Poppy Paint - 10-30 seconds
- Poppy Paint Pearlescents - 30-60 seconds
- Poppy Paint Super Shine - 5-10 minutes
Note: The range accounts for temperature and humidity.
- These poppy paints hydrophobic, i.e. do not set on wet surface. Avoid using them on porous surfaces prepared out of the following items: Gelatin, Whipped Cream, or Buttercream. The alcohol will absorb into the confection.
What can a fast-drying paint do for me?
A layer of Poppy Paint will dry within seconds, not minutes. This allows you to paint multiple layers and colors in one sitting, instead of having to break it up into small segments over a long period of time!
So, it doesn’t rub off…
Because Poppy Paint won’t rub or smudge once dry, there’s no need to worry about messing up your previous work when applying the final details. Also, your paint work will not be blemished if coming in contact with any packaging or container. Cookies and cake pops can be wrapped individually!
In addition to being smudge proof, Poppy Paint also dries waterproof. While this might not sound like much, what it means is that you won’t need to worry about your hands or mouth being dyed when eating treats painted with Poppy Paint. No rainbow-colored tongues or fingers!
How do I clean my brushes after painting with Poppy Paint?
remove
When painting with Poppy Paint, always keep a shot glass (or similar) containing a high concentration alcohol at your workstation. We generally use 91% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, but lemon extract or 180+ proof grain alcohol are good alternatives. Rubbing alcohol is the most cost-efficient choice, but since it is inedible it requires that you thoroughly wash your brush between each use.
While Painting
Place used brushes tip-down in the glass of alcohol to prevent the paint from drying. When ready to use one of these brushes again, rub the brush around the bottom of the glass to wash out most of the residual paint. Remove the brush from the alcohol and wipe the brush tip along a paper towel to remove the remaining paint and alcohol. If you are using lemon extract or grain alcohol, this brush is now ready to be used again. However, if you are using rubbing alcohol, you’ll need to make sure all traces of that alcohol are removed from the brush before using it again. To do this, wash the brush tip thoroughly with dish soap and water. Make sure the bristles are completely dry before using this brush again, as water will cause the paint to gum up.
When Done Painting
Ensure that most of the residual paint is out of the brush tip. Wash the tip with dish soap and water, then rinse thoroughly and set aside to dry. Even if the brush is completely clean after soaking in the alcohol, washing the tip with dish soap will ensure your brush stays soft and pliable.
Note: If you have a brush tip that is seized up with dried Poppy Paint, simply soak that brush in alcohol for a few minutes and then clean as above.
SHAKE WELL: Mix your paint well before using it. In most of the color containers, the paint settles down to the bottom, and the separation between viscous and liquid is clearly visible except in the case of white and black ones where it’s hard to notice even though it exists.
Shake vigorously until the color appears uniform from top to bottom. For colors like black and white where you cannot see the separation, shake even longer than the others just to be sure.
TIP: If the shaking fails to loosen the sediment, which you likely to witness in case the paint has set for a long time, you need to loosen the sediment before shaking. For this, apply gently pressure to the bottom and squeeze the bottle.
